Designing Robotics for Teens

Explore engineering and programming in the rich environment of robotics, using NAO, Mindstorms and mechanical arms to build and code in a world-class robotics lab!

Course Overview:

Discover the art of robotics using in a technology-focused environment that introduces students to ‘hands-on-learning’ through the construction and testing of a wide variety of robotic projects. Robotics-focused courses are a highly-engaging way in which to introduce or extend students to foundational concepts within coding whilst concurrently learning principles of robotic engineering builds.

Throughout this course students will work in teams of two to build increasingly complex hardware-software projects to eventually compete against each other in creative challenges similar to those found within the First Lego World League.

Hosted in the ECU Engineering robotics labs, this course will also give students behind-the-scenes access to a wide range of robotic technology including the soccer-playing NAO, production-style robotic arms and the human-sized Baxter used to train university students for real-world projects!

This class is sure to light up any child’s passion for tech within a competitive and engaging learning environment.

Firetech is especially on the lookout for the next generation of female and male robotics champions for ECU - are you ready to step forward and show the world what you can create?

What Students Will Learn:

  • Mechanical design and construction fundamentals
  • Graphical programming
  • Teamwork skills
  • Working with moving parts and an introduction to engineering, including the use and calibration of sensors
  • Producing a finished competition-ready product for our robot Sumo Wars!

Perfect for Ages: 12 - 17
